What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
Some of my favorite discoveries during this course involve learning how much I don’t know. There is so much of the web that we don’t get exposed to in our everyday lives. I have learned about many new resources to use both personally and for teaching. I really enjoyed building my webquest and publishing it online so it is accessible to anyone at any time.
How has this course assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
My learning goals have been transformed. This course has awakened my continued learning when it comes to internet resources. Since we become comfortable with our everyday use of the internet we tend to stay stagnant with what works for us. The internet continually evolves and provides new ways of learning and presenting materials. As a teacher I wish to do the same.
Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this course that surprised you?
One unexpected outcome from this course is the realization that you just don’t know how much that you don’t know. This came as a surprise when I saw lists of different web resources that I had never even heard of. I must not just focus on the curriculum but how I evolve with the technology and how my comfort level makes the delivery of information more palatable. The www is so much a part of our lives that it is also an increasingly large part of education and can be used as a vast resource to enrich both the teaching and learning experience.
What could we do differently to improve upon this course’s format or concept?
There is not much more you could add into the course. I could see that we could have had time for one more project. Perhaps we could have made a podcast or made a presentation and submitted it to a sharing website. I liked how we were given many resources to help us explore on our own.
If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate?
If there was a course that was titled WEB 3.0, I think that it would be essential for educators to take in order to keep up with the continuously evolving www. There are so many things that I have learned that I will definitely share with fellow teachers. I could even offer a mini lesson during a teacher resource / in-service period. The next course could build upon WEB 2.0 or just introduce the new generation of tools available.
